Quincy Bioscience Begins Recruitment for New Migraine Study

 MADISON, WISCONSIN, (MONDAY, APRIL 2^nd, 2012) MAGNUM  (Updated APRIL 22^nd, 2012)  – At the end of winter on February 9th, 2012 Quincy Bioscience was pleased to announce that recruitment is underway for a new Migraine study, evaluating the effectiveness of the jellyfish calcium-binding protein apoaequorin on quality of life for Migraine sufferers.  MAGNUM is also pleased to announce we will be working with Quincy Bioscience beginning the month of April 2012 to help promote this recruitment currently underway to benefit Migraineurs everywhere.

The Online Migraine Trial is a patient-rated outcomes study in which participants complete validated rating scales via the internet over a three month period of time.  Migraineurs 18 to 50 years old who experience 3 or more migraines per month are encouraged to apply at www.onlinemigrainetrial.com.

WASHINGTON, DC-MONDAY, MARCH 26^TH, 2012-(MAGNUM)-In the 17 years of continuous Migraine disease healthcare website operation our primary website www.migraines.org has NEVER been hacked or attacked in a viscous way. For that matter neither has our online Migraine publication www.MigraineBlog.org or our original blog address www.MigraineBlog.com before we unifed all of our websites to dot org's. Or blogs still stand unhanked. But on the eve of the Fifth National Headache On the (Capitol) Hill beginning today our staff was shocked to see our website has been attacked for the first time in our near two decades of serving the public.

Not just any run of the mill collage kid(s) hacker type out to give a headache to the “haa haa” Migraine website.  Oh no, MAGNUM attracts Arab terrorists who take down our website with a well ‘targeted’ graphic of a PhotoShopped, albeit a very poor one, of the burning Twin Towers at the height of the September eleventh, 2001 attack replete with faces drawn on the two buildings.

MAGNUM appears to be in good company as the Israeli National air carrier El Al was attacked and hacked by the same group according to an article by the Associated Press last month.  The El Al raid appears to be the work of same group of Arab cyber terrorist who attacked MAGNUM operating out of Saudi Arabia.  Unlike the El Al raid where the Israeli airline suffered an estimated 15,000 accounts hacked in that attack, whereby no MAGNUM member or visitor information was compromised in the www.migraines.org preemptive attack the morning of Headache On the Hill V. In addition unfortunately the El Al raid also grabbed credit card information regarding 6,000 other Israelis citizens was disclosed online a few days after the cyber terror attack by this same Saudi Arabian network.

What is so horrid is during our last four Headache On the Hill Congressional Public Health Educational events Americans numbering in the hundreds over the years have flown, driven, and even taken Amtrak to visit the Nation’s Capital. These sad Saudi Arabian cyber terrorist, well that is who they say they are, as they proudly take credit complete with poor grammar and spelling. They do not say who they are by name, but rather with many code names as they make very serious threats under their manipulated photo of the 911 tragedy with the large type under the photo stating “Have a Nice Trip”. If you look closely at the tasteless photo from that other day that lives in infamy you can clearly see the second airliner in midflight seconds before it carries those Americans about to be murdered.

Several people have also pointed out that many of the famous Migraine doctors are Jewish and this might be yet another sad reason to target both MAGNUM and Headache On the Hill V. MAGNUM is a partner for the HOHV event where we had a large graphic on the center of our Homepage supporting the Alliance for Headache Disorders Advocacy (AHDA) & Headache On the Hill. Ironically with art of an airliner flying into Reagan National Airport with Capitol Hill off in the background an unusual view of Washington DC from across the Potomac River echoes their use of the airliner about to hit the towers.

Having said the obvious, what is truly so sad about the small minded and ignorant people who did this is we also have a great contingent of Arab Migraine experts as well as Christians and all manner of faith. After all this is a nation based on freedom of religion. We are using our great freedom to work with other medical leaders from around the world (See the World Headache Alliance-WHA and the World Health Organization-WHO) to bring freedom of Migraine, headache disorders, and pain.

You would think whoever did this act of attempting to prolong pain by blocking our information on Migraine treatment and access to it, in the end they are causing many a few days of pain—and we hope they are happy for causing such pain. But the millions of hits we get every month, in addition to the millions of hits our Migraine disease web friends put out we hope the story of such an aggressive cyber attack just may get people to realize how dangerous these hackers truly are.

In the end you would hope our work of the past near 20 years and the past five Headache On the Hills working with U.S. Senators and Congressman to improve access for better treatments and better Migraine drugs which will even help the families of the sad aggresive people who hacked www.migraines.org . Just think how ironic it is that our hackers loved ones will benefit from the work being done at this year’s HOHV that they so perfectly timed their cyber attack on the eve of the AHDA'a Capitol Hill medical Migraine disease awareness event to disrupt!

Not just the hackers, but the mostly good 340 million Arabs living in the 22 so-called Arab nations of the world.  To that fact we are talking about 40.8 million Arab Migraineurs who were the real target of today’s hacking attack.  Consider this, with over half the Arab population currently under 25 years of age that demographic is probably closer to an MAGNUM estimated 45-48 million Arab Migraineurs in the 22 Arab nations!  This is reflected in the traffic MAGNUM gets, as tens of thousands of hits from Arabs nations echoes every month as they are looking for Migraine information as well as the help they cannot find in their homeland. Which is why we welcome their searches from the internet and groups such as MAGNUM are standing by with Migraine information to help them accross the oceans.  So way to shot yourself in your own foot, our busy hacker friends.  Way to reach around the globe and hit your own sister & brother in the face, well done.

So we have lost valuable time needed to gather needed signatures. The good news is the hard work done by the Alliance for Headache Disorders Advocacy (AHDA) and our sister member NGO’s have already gathered 9,070 signers at this time. So let us help them break 10,000 signers soon. Everything you need to know is clearly spelled out below. May we suggest you take a minute to read through it and then please sign it electronically.

Once you have done that can you please forward this article to anybody who you believe will want support improving the future for Migraine disease sufferers across our nation.

We, the undersigned citizens of the United States, hereby petition the Honorable Senators Tom Harkin, Michael Enzi, Bernard Sanders, and Rand Paul; and the Honorable Representatives Fred Upton, Henry Waxman, Joe Pitts, and Frank Pallone, Jr. –

1) To recognize the following findings of fact regarding migraine and other headache disorders:

• Chronic headache disorders, including migraine and cluster headache, are among the top 20 causes of disability in the US according to the World Health Organization (WHO)
• 19% of Americans will experience an attack of some form of migraine this year.
• 75% of Americans with episodic migraine are women, predominantly of child-bearing age.
• 4% of Americans experience 4 hours of headaches per day, at least 15 days per month.
• Among veterans of the Iraq/Afghanistan conflicts, 37% of servicemen and 57% of servicewomen reported ongoing migraine if there was a deployment history of concussive injury and any predeployment history of migraine.
• Migraine results in an increased risk of cardiovascular disease which has been linked to more than 1500 additional deaths in the US annually.
• Headache disorders, including migraine, are responsible for more than $31B in economic costs in the US annually.
• The WHO estimates that migraine causes more lost years of healthy life in the US annually than multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, ovarian cancer, and tuberculosis combined...,
• ...whereas in 2010 the combined NIH research funding on these four disorders ($684M) was more than 45 times greater than that for migraine ($15M).
• NIH funding for all research on headache disorders comprised less than 0.05% of the NIH budget in 2010.
• Only one innovative drug (sumatriptan), discovered, developed, and priority reviewed specifically for migraine treatment, has been FDA approved in the past 50 years.
• A total of only 290 American physicians have received Headache Medicine specialty training and are certified by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties.
• The US Congress has never held a public hearing devoted to headache disorders.
  
  

2) To hold public hearings in Washington, DC, before the Primary Health and Aging Subcommittee of the Senate HELP Committee and/or before the Health Subcommittee of the House Energy & Commerce Committee, prior to the close of the 112th Congress to:

• further the appreciation among the public and within the federal government of the enormous social, economic, and personal burdens imposed by headache disorders.
• explore the roles of the federal government through the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Department of the Defense, as well as the role of private sector commerce, in promoting research into the causes of, and treatments for, headache disorders.
• understand and suggest remedies for the significant barriers that exist for Americans with headache disorders to obtaining effective treatments as well as adequate access to health care providers with specialty training and expertise in the care for headache disorders.

Migraine Takes Center Stage Once Again At The Grammy Awards

Migraineur Sean Diddy Combs Suffers Post Stress Letdown Migraine Requiring Hospitalization Following Playboy Mansion Grammy Awards Event 

 

(LOS ANGELES,CALIFORNIA) WASHINGTON, DC-MONDAY, FEBRUARY 13th, 2012-(MAGNUM)-UPDATED THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 16th, 2012-According to a breaking news and wire reports rap star Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who has been known for being so-called headache at past Grammy Award events is hospitalized himself for what appears to be a post stress letdown Migraine today.

P. Diddy aka Sean Combs aka Puff Daddy aka Migraine suffer had to be taken to the UCLA Emergency Room in Los Angeles, California after the rap star complained of a severe Migraine this past Sunday night (February 12^th).  The 42 year-old started suffering from massive head pain the following Monday (February 13^th) morning and he was taken to University of California, Los Angeles ER for care and treatment of is Migraine attack.

Once again Migraine takes center stage at the Grammy Awards as Sean Combs had hosted the all star-studded event at the Hugh Hefner Play Mansion which followed the Grammy Awards.  No doubt some will blame the rap mogul’s Migraine attack on his hectic schedule in addition to his trade mark partying claiming it was the cause severe incapacitating Migraine. 

But if the stress of the rap star’s hectic schedule would have played a role in his visit to the ER, then that visit would have taken place Sunday when the stress was most was at its peak.  But the fact the Migraine hit Mr. Puff Daddy on Monday morning is a classic sign we are dealing with a more common “Post Stress Letdown Migraine”.  Which tend to hit the Migraineurs when the stress is finally over.  We wish the best to the artist, and hope he is feeling better.

According to TMZ.com Migraineur Sean Combs is doing well after his treatment at UCLA emergency room, he was released is resting at home comfortably. 

His close music industry friend Russell Simmons writes in a post, “…glad that Puff is ok…probably just working too hard.” And sadly it begins again that fast, as you don’t get a Migraine from “working too hard”. But a common trigger is the sudden absence of stress which can trigger a Migraine--commonly called a post stress letdown Migraine. What apparently happened to this hard working artist is between his doctor and himself. But to his concerned fans it appears he suffered a Post Stress Letdown Migraine, and we wish him well as it looks as if he was under good medical care as the UCLA ER took his Migraine quite seriously. Something we can tell you from all the calls and e-mails MAGNUM receives, can be a real problem for many American Migraineurs when they end up at their local ER with complaints of Migraine and they are not given such good care or even worse are turned away.

Now that would have been a major story if the UCLA ER refused to treat his 'Migraine' and accused him to be a ‘drug seeker’ as so often happens to people at OTHER ER's across the nation who are legitimately sick just like Puffy just not famous.

The size of the UCLA medical facility for those not familial with it, it is a very large medical institition. But then it serves a very large city many of our reader would point out.  Which is all the more important to see how well they treated a Migraine patient.

 

Impax Pharmaceuticals Acquires Popular Migraine Abortive Drug Family

Impax Pharmaceuticals Acquires United States Rights to Popular Migraine Drug Zomig® (Zolmitriptan) from AstraZeneca 

 

WASHINGTON, DC-WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 01, 2012-(MAGNUM)- According to a breaking press release from Impax, they provide us with an Updated 2012 Financial Outlook as they expand into the Migraine disease treatment area.

Migraineurs can hope with the new ownership we might see a more completive prices for this line of popular Migraine abortive drugs.  MAGNUM will be asking Impax Pharmaceuticals if Migraineurs can expect any future changes in cost due to better production and or management? One can only hope when we read such headlines in the business sections.

Impax Pharmaceuticals, the branded products business unit of Impax Laboratories, Inc. /quotes/zigman/81476/quotes/nls/ipxl IPXL -0.25% , announced today that it has licensed from AstraZeneca the exclusive United States (U.S.) commercial rights to Zomig(R) (zolmitriptan) tablet, orally disintegrating tablet, and nasal spray formulations. As part of a Distribution, License, Development and Supply Agreement, Impax will also have non-exclusive rights to develop new products containing zolmitriptan and to exclusively commercialize these products in the U.S. in connection with the Zomig(R) brand. Under terms of the Agreement, Impax will pay AstraZeneca quarterly payments totaling $130 million during 2012, and thereafter, Impax will pay AstraZeneca tiered royalties on future sales of zolmitriptan products. Impax will receive the benefit of the gross profit on U.S. Zomig(R) sales commencing from January 1, 2012.

The transaction is expected to be immediately accretive on a non-Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) basis to Impax's earnings per share (EPS) in 2012 and potentially accretive on a GAAP basis depending upon GAAP purchase price treatment, which will be determined in due course.

Mary Lamielle Receives Martin Luther King Freedom Medal For Helping Those With Disabilities

WASHINGTON, DC; FRIDAY, JANUARY 20^th, 2012—(MAGNUM)—UPDATED FEBFUARY 7, 2012 — We at MAGNUM are very proud to report that Mary Lamielle, executive director of the National Center for Environmental Health Strategies, is one of fourteen Camden County , New Jersey , residents chosen to receive the 2012 Camden County Freedom Medal, honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., for their unselfish contributions to improving their community.

 

Improving the quality of life for Migraineurs would not be possible if not for such people as Executive Director Mary Lamielle.  Which is why we know this story will warm many of your hearts to know we have such people in the health world in a time when we read all too many negative health care articles.

For three decades Mary has dedicated herself to promoting the public health and improving the lives of people sick or disabled by environmental exposures. She has served on dozens of federal and state advisory committees including the recently concluded CDC National Conversation on Public Health and Chemical Exposures. She is a member of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences’ Public Interest Partners and HUD’s Disability Task Force.

Mary was nominated for the Freedom Medal by Diane Reibel, Assistant Professor of Physiology at Thomas Jefferson Medical School in Philadelphia . Mary was recently honored with the 2011 New Jersey Governor’s Jefferson Award for Public Service, PSEG Environmental Stewardship Award, and a 2010 US EPA Region 2 Environmental Quality Award, the highest civilian award given by the EPA.

The Camden County Freedom Medal award was created in 2001 to honor the ideals indicative of the slain civil rights leader. According to Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr., “This is Camden County ‘s way of honoring Dr. King.”

Medals will be presented during an evening ceremony at the Camden County Boathouse at Cooper River on January 20.
